The Choir of the Santa Cecilia de Onda Musical Union, winner of the V Firacor Prize in the 41st edition of the Fira de Tots Sants Choral Competition

The Santa Cecilia Musical Union Choir, from Onda, Umsco Choir, has been proclaimed the winner of the V FIRACOR Prize in the 41st edition of the Fira de Tots Sants Choral Contest, held last Saturday at the El Teular Cultural Center, in Cocentaina.
The level has not disappointed and one more year, the Fira de Tots Sants Choral Contest has shown the richness of choral singing in a pleasant evening led by the journalist and presenter of ÀPunt, Ferran Cano. The first choir to go on stage was Coro Diatessaron de Molina del Segura, winner of the 1st Prize of the 39th edition of the 2019 Contest; It was followed by Alaia Ensemble, from Madrid, winner of the 1st Prize of the 37th edition of the Contest 2017. Finally, the Santa Cecilia Musical Union Choir, from Onda, Umsco Choir, the recipient of the 2nd Prize and Audience Award of the 38th edition of the 2018 Contest, has closed the turn of performances. The three choirs have offered a magnificent repertoire that has It lived up to the extraordinary prize of 6.000 euros that was at stake.
The jury has been made up of Josep Josep Robert Sellés i Camps, Ana Luisa Chova Rodríguez, Elisenda Carrasco i Ribot, Ramón Gil González and Elisa Gómez Pérez, all of them recognized experts from the choral world. In addition, Marc Vilaplana Calbo has intervened as secretary of the jury. During the time they have used for the deliberation, the group Fun Jazz Project has performed. Created in 2007, it is made up of Adolfo Garcia, on piano, Josep Soler, double bass, Pep Soler, on drums. Together with the singer Rosa Porta, they have performed great songs adapted from soul, pop, swing and Latin music.
The 41st edition of the Fira de Tots Sants Choral Contest, organized by the association of the same name and integrated among its associates by members of the Discantus Chamber Choir, is part of the cultural activities programmed by the City Council of Cocentaina for the celebration of the 675 edition of the Fira de Tots Sants. As highlighted by the mayor of Cocentaina, Mireia Estepa, “it has been a satisfaction to once again celebrate the Choral Contest in all its fullness, after a last edition with important sanitary and capacity restrictions. Praise, once again, the quality of the participating choirs and the success of the organization in this 41st edition. And of course, my sincere congratulations to the winning choir for their magnificent performance”.

Raúl Belda, coordinator of the Choral Contest, has valued “the effort of the participating choirs due to the complicated situation that the choral world is going through due to the pandemic”.
The Fira de Tots Sants Choral Contest is the only Choral Contest in the entire Valencian Community in this modality and the only one that promotes the dissemination of choral music written in Valencian with the commission, especially for the occasion, of a choral composition written in Valencian because it serves as an interpretive reference for all the choirs. This composition is the required work that they have to interpret in our language, regardless of their place of origin.
The 5th FIRACOR Prize is a four-year prize where the three winning choirs from the last three regular editions of the Contest compete for a single prize of 6.000€, plus the audience prize of 600€. The choirs perform a free program of various styles of the choral repertoire, together the required work corresponding to the edition where they were classified to participate in this award.
